Ketchup stuck in the bottle ??? LiquiGlide™ is fundamentally changing the way people and industries move liquids.

We have all been frustrated with the ketchup bottle at one point or another. While many have their own solution, such as hitting the 57 on the bottle,  LiquiGlide has come up with a permanently wet surface that will get rid of this problem forever for mankind.

LiquiGlide™ is fundamentally changing the way people and industries move liquids. LiquiGlide’s permanently wet surfaces eliminate the “no-slip” boundary condition that causes viscous liquids to stick to solids.
Invented at MIT, LiquiGlide’s patented technology platform is built on a fundamental model of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Our team of experts are constantly advancing the technology and building on our proprietary algorithm.
LiquiGlide’s coatings are custom designed to be hyper slippery and permanently wet, using materials that are safe for each specific application. Our coatings are also self-healing, such that the liquid will naturally fill and cover any scratches that are made in the surface.
A conventional superhydrophobic surface is like a lotus leaf; it is a highly textured surface which creates a cushion of air for the product to sit on. Over time, superhydrophobic surfaces break down and are no longer slippery. They are also typically made of exotic materials that are not safe for food applications.
LiquiGlide™ is a multi-layer, liquid-impregnated surface, consisting of a customized solid texture and a liquid. The highly textured solid surface is composed of a matrix of features spaced sufficiently close to stably contain the impregnating liquid that fills in the spaces between the features. The liquid is held in place within the texture, creating a slippery, liquid surface. Over time, the surface continues to be slippery because the liquid is permanently held in place within the textures.

Whole Foods opens first 365 store in Los Angeles

 | BY DAN BERTHIAUME

After months of anticipation, the 365 by Whole Foods Market value store format has made its debut in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The 29,000-sq.-ft. store offers a streamlined look and feel to go along with its streamlined product selection. All price tags are digital and printed signs are limited to maximize the customer’s view of the store.
The space is accented with blues, reds and yellows, and features a textured piece of art designed to be reflective of the neighborhood, “Silver Kale,” by Sebastien Leon Agneessens. There is also a bike lockup section and accessible parking.

On the omnichannel side, free WiFi is available in seating areas throughout the store and home delivery is available via Instacart. 365 by Whole Foods Market has also partnered with Banquet by Delectable, a smartphone app that scans wine labels and provides instant descriptions and ratings. Self-serve “teaBot” kiosks allow shoppers to create customized tea blends.

Other amenities include the Allegro Coffee craft brew bar serving cold brew coffee, beers on tap and more than 65 indoor and outdoor seats; and a 38-seat communal vegan dining area called by. Chloe.

Product focus is geared toward customers seeking convenience and value for items without artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives. Assortment includes grab-and-go prepared foods as well as grocery items such as produce, meat, seafood, bakery, bulk, supplement, baby care, chilled goods, and beverages.

The Silver Lake opening coincides with the launch of My 365 Rewards, a digital loyalty program offering personalized offers, product recommendations and deals based on individual preferences. Shoppers can sign up online and can use their digital membership card or phone number at checkout.

“Whether you’re looking for a quick in-and-out shop for a few items, stocking up for the week, or having a sit down dinner at by Chloe, with a beer from Allegro’s craft brew bar, you’ll find a blend of innovation and convenience,” said Jeff Turnas, president, 365 by Whole Foods Market. “From the food offerings to the design, we’ve built a foundation on the quality standards you’ve come to expect from Whole Foods Market in a fun new format that’s easy to navigate and focused on value in every department.”

Whole Foods is targeting busy millennials with convenience, seamless technology and community features; as well as the wider range of shoppers looking for lower prices than offered at traditional Whole Foods stores. The retailer may have created a winning strategy by making organic groceries available more affordably and easily, but must avoid diluting its core brand identity with higher-income shoppers.

Hines, Gemdale Properties Launch Joint Venture in Redevelopment of South Station Transportation Center

First Phase of Reimagined Transportation Hub and Mixed-Use Development to Consist of 51-Story Office/Multifamily Tower
May 16, 2016
Houston-based global real estate investment firm Hines and Gemdale Properties & Investment Corp., a subsidiary of Gemdale Corp., one of the largest real estate developers in China, have formed a partnership to redevelop the historic South Station in downtown Boston into a signature transportation hub and mixed-use complex.

One of the first center-city intermodal transit centers in the U.S., South Station - now named the Michael S. Dukakis Transportation Center - incorporates Amtrak, the MBTA Commuter Rail System, the MBTA Red Line and the Silver Line with direct service to the Seaport District and Logan International Airport.

The first phase of the redevelopment will consist of a 51-story office and residential high-rise atop the Michael S. Dukakis Transportation Center that upon completion will register as the tallest building in Boston's Financial District and the fourth tallest in Massachusetts.

The tower will consist of 26 floors of commercial office space - starting on the ninth floor - with the upper 16 floors housing residential condominiums. Phase one will also include the addition of 530 parking spaces and the extension of the South Station bus terminal.

“Boston is experiencing a remarkable economic and physical transformation,” noted Hines Founder and Chairman Gerald D. Hines. “Hines and Gemdale PI will make a significant investment in upgrading and expanding Boston’s transportation infrastructure at the regional transit hub. The project will also result in the creation of a world-class, architecturally significant, mixed-use community. We are thrilled and honored to participate in this critical public/private partnership with the MBTA to complete the redevelopment of the Dukakis Transportation Center.”

Hines and Glendale will also continue the second phase of the bus terminal construction, a project launched in the mid-1980's that involved the expansion of the historic train station building and reconstruction of all tracks and platforms, and plan to increase the bus terminal capacity by 50 percent, which has been an ongoing effort of the federal, state and local governments since the 1970's.

Additionally, other improvements for the transportation infrastructure include more convenient pedestrian connections between the bus, subway and train, weather protection for train station platforms and additional gate revenues for more income stream.

The partnership would also facilitate and reduce the amount of public investment to expand train tracks and platforms on the adjacent U.S. Postal Service property. The Boston Redevelopment Authority and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection approved the project in 2006.

Red Sox Tied for First with an Explosive Offense

Jackie Bradley was named AL Player of the Week. (Mark L. Baer/USA Today Sports)There is definitely something special happening with the Red Sox this year. With Jackie Bradley on a 21 game hitting streak the Sox are tied for first place with a record of 24-14. Jackie Bradley absolutely stands out as with being the AL player of the week. Besides all of the record breaking it is shaping up to be a great last year for David Ortiz. It truly seems like the whole team is rallying behind his golden bat and making this a year that he will remember for the rest of his life. The Red Sox hope to continue their good fortune as of late with their next series being with Kansas City and then the Cleveland Indians back at home this upcoming weekend. In any case, this season is shaping up to be exciting for both players and fans and when that happens you get wins, So we can be sure to see plenty more of those. A collection of cars from the 1920s highlights one of the greatest eras of car design - Post by William Fierman

Unless your name is Jay Leno, car collectors tend to focus on a particular theme when selecting examples.
Many zero in on a manufacturer, category, country of origin, or, in the case of one lovely collection to be auctioned in Monaco this weekend, an era.
The sale will take place at an RM Sotheby's auction on May 14 which runs concurrent to the historical Grand Prix of Monaco.
Interestingly, all lots are offered without reserve.
The "Quattroruote" collection is the child Gianni Mazzocchi, co-founder of the widely-read Italian motoring magazine of the same name, Autoevolution reported.
Along with a good variety of other vehicles, like a World War II-era Jeep, an 1879 Singer racing bicycle, and (rather oddly) a 1978 Mercedes station wagon, the collection boasts an impressive selection of vehicles from the 1920s, perhaps the most influential era of automotive development and design.
The auction highlight is undoubtedly a head-turning Bugatti Type 57 Cabriolet with coachwork by Gangloff of Colmar. It was once the famous French automaker's showpiece, and is sure to capture a sale figure with many, many zeroes.
Take a look at some of the other vehicles for sale.

E-tailers with physical stores outperform those without: Report (Post from ICSC SCT May Issue)

E-tailers with physical stores outperform those without: Report

Publish Date: May 12, 2016
Retailers with robust omni-channel strategies backed by physical stores generate the most online sales, according to a survey of 1,000 consumers conducted April 8–10 by ICSC Research. “By now it has become readily apparent that the relationship between online retail and physical stores is not strictly an either-or proposition,” said Jean Lambert, ICSC’s director of research. “Omni-channel retail has integrated the platforms to a far greater extent than was deemed possible even a few years ago. Talk of one type of consumer versus another no longer makes sense, since each platform ends up being used on the consumer journey.”
Roughly 70 percent of those surveyed said they had made a purchase online in the 30 days previous, with expenditures averaging $178.30 each and sales taking place at all types of online retailers. Nearly 80 percent of the respondents between the ages of 35 and 44 said they had made a purchase online — the survey's highest-represented age bracket to do so.
Online retailers with physical stores tended to draw more traffic, according to the survey, and those with click-and-collect capabilities drew even more. Nearly 50 percent of the respondents said they had bought online from a retailer with a physical presence. Just over 36 percent used the click-and-collect method: buying online and picking up in-store. Roughly 35 percent of the respondents purchased things online and then had the merchandise shipped to their homes.
Respondents were likelier to spend more at those retailers that have physical stores. On average, they spent $90.60 each online at retailers with a physical presence, versus an average expenditure of $87.70 on the part of those buying from pure online retailers. Respondents over age 18 said they had spent $47.30 on average, buying online and opting for in-store pickup, versus $43.40 for those who bought online and then had the merchandise shipped home. Of those buying online for in-store pickup, 42 percent said they had spent additional money at least once at the same store, at an adjacent establishment, or at another store within the same shopping center. Among those who said they spent additional money when picking up online purchases in-store, 42.1 percent said their total spending came from the original purchase, while 57.9 percent said their total spending came from additional purchases.
As far as online shopping is concerned, Amazon.com rules the barnyard — some 80 percent of the respondents’ online-only spending occurred at Amazon. This equates to $70.60 each spent during the 30 days previous. Only $17.10 each on average was spent at all the other pure online retailers.
Men seem overwhelmingly to prefer Amazon, with expenditures there of $102.70 each, on average, versus $40.80 each among women. Respondents with household income of $100,000 per year or higher spent three times as much on Amazon as those with household income of $35,000 per year or lower ($131 versus $43 each, on average, respectively).

Lambert concluded: “It remains impossible not to think of physical locations as central to the whole enterprise — no longer merely a point of sale, but now transformed into a fulfillment center, a showroom for experiencing products, the creator of a ‘halo effect’ enhancing the retailer’s image in its trade area and a powerful branding mechanism.”

Budweiser to Rename Beer "America"

635984713121162968-BUD-12OZ-BOTTLE-JKR-SUMMER-SXS.jpg

If it wasn't clear already... Budweiser is America's beer. From being seen in TV shows, movies, and at nearly every cookout during the summer months Budweiser is everywhere in America.

The cans of patriotic nectar will be available May 23 through the November election and aim “to inspire drinkers to celebrate America and Budweiser's shared values of freedom and authenticity.”

Changing the name to "America" is potentially a risky move for the brand, which already "says America, without saying it," according to John Immesoete, Chief Creative Officer of global marketing agency Epsilon.
"They are basically taking a brand name they’ve spent billions of dollars behind worldwide, and tossing it aside for a while and putting 'America' on it," said Immesoete, who has worked on past Budweiser Super Bowl campaigns, but is not associated with the "America is in Your Hands" campaign.

SVET: The Health Friendly Light Bulb

One thing that is certainly taking advantage of and common place in our everyday lives is electricity and artificial lighting. Whether at work or at home we are surrounded by something we probably do not give much thought to... lighting. With increased thought to how our activities in our office and at home during our "relaxation time" can affect our health there definitely should be some thought given to how our lighting can change our mood or health.

Introducing... SVET- the health-friendly light bulb.

SVET creates dynamic lighting scenarios depending on your biological rhythm to benefit your health. SVET bulbs will normalize your biological clock by automatically adjusting light during your waking hours in order to give you a sufficient portion of the morning, noon and evening light.

Satellite Shelter For Under $100

The problem: Homeless people are at risk of dying on the streets since many cities don't have emergency systems in place for winter or harsh storms.

The Solution: Students at Carnegie Mellon’s Integrated Innovation Institute partook in an “Impact-a-Thon,” a competition that tasked groups with devising innovative and affordable solutions to help homeless people survive the winter. In a matter of days, the second-place team engineered an over-the-shoulder refuge that could serve as an alternative to a standard homeless shelter.

What they came up with:

What the vision turned into:
A collapsible, low cost single person shelter for homeless individuals.
Projected: Availability in December 2016 (United States), Cost of each shelter would be less than $100
